Leadership in action
Many organizations today experience sub-optimized decision-making for their IT investments and mission support; maturing beyond Level 1 or 2 involves significant foresight, planning and creative integration of available resources. IT portfolio management is a central element of good IT investment management, and DSD’s techniques and expertise tailor risk-based approaches to select and manage IT projects, integrating business and IT planning, budgeting, standards, processes, governance, and strategy.
DSD’s approach links strategies and fosters prioritization based on performance measures and system health, providing CIOs with security and modernization risk indicators to manage their portfolios effectively. With the innovative DSD approach to IT Portfolio Management, organizations can:
- Reduce IT duplication
- Achieve tighter integration and interoperability
- Align investments to strategy
- Achieve intended objectives within cost and on schedule
DSD Laboratories provides system and database administrators to support numerous systems across a broad spectrum of functional capabilities. Our capabilities include support for a wide variety of specialized data environments, data capture, schema, and interface development, database security, back-up/recovery, and database structure and optimization. DSD personnel have experience across multiple disciplines to provide a comprehensive set of solutions for improving data management practices — data strategy and management, data architecture modelling, analyzing data structures, implementing data quality verification, exposing and registering data for discovery and exploitation, and establishing data cleansing processes.
More than ever before, government and industry are reliant upon increasingly complex technology to operate and maintain business processes while also achieving strategic objectives. DSD is on the forefront of creating and applying advanced cybersecurity engineering to combat those threats. DSD is on the forefront of creating and applying advanced cybersecurity engineering to combat those threats. DSD’s multidisciplinary security engineers have extensive cybersecurity backgrounds making them well-equipped to perform a wide range of cybersecurity engineering tasks such as business process threat and risk analysis, requirements elicitation, security architecture, threat and vulnerability assessments, computer and communication security, networking, security technology assessments, development, test and evaluation, and penetration testing.
DSD pioneered many of the DoD and AF requested Risk Management Framework (RMF) pathfinders used to benchmark and test the plans to move from the DoD Information Assurance Certification and Accreditation Process (DIACAP) to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) based RMF – essentially building the RMF program from the ground up.
DSD provides Agile support to many DoD customers. We have certified Scrum Masters, DevOps Architects, and DevOp Project Managers who are using Agile practices to support systems, including those modernized in the cloud. We follow an Agile process to field new or updated capabilities in quick succession using sprint release cycles, and we leverage manual and automated tools to ensure the schedule is met. Workload meetings prioritize, analyze, and divide Baseline Change Requests (BCRs) and Deficiency Reports (DRs) into logical/manageable iterations that are small enough to develop quickly yet provides value to the customer. A repeatable checklist is followed/refined during the entire lifecycle of an iteration to ensure compliance with CM, security, and development standards. To ensure continuous development, stakeholders identify a minimum of two future iterations and business analysts generate Epics, Features, and User Stories a minimum of one iteration ahead of the current development iteration.
DSD has tremendous experience sustaining legacy and modernized systems for our customers. Lifecycle support includes system operations, network and database administration, Tier 1-3 service desk support, functional subject matter experts, system upgrades and software releases, requirements development, configuration management, cybersecurity and system modernization support.
System migration to cloud platforms is holds the possibilities for greater performance, efficiency, and sustainability. To accomplish these goals, the system has to be migrated with confident expertise, and managed in the new environment with command and skill. DSD is a proven leader in cloud administration with expertise sustaining systems within the DoD’s cloud computing environment. DSD has successfully migrated multiple system deployments to the cloud within Azure and AWS PaaS and IaaS.
